I recently shot an ad for PinkMinkMafia.com (PMM), a clothing company here in Southern California. The purpose of the ad was to promote one of their new shirts which they refer to as the “mafiosa” shirt. I had a lot of liberty in terms of the direction I wanted to take the shoot so I figured we would be bold and controversial with this project which goes well with the company’s entity.
I took a page out of “Goodfellas” by Martin Scorsese and created a scene where two of the PMM girls were taking a third girl out of the trunk of their car so they could “whack” her and bury her in the middle of nowhere. We found an abandoned road in the city of Corona and went to work.
For wardrobe, I had the PMM girls wear the “Mafiosa” shirt of course, pin-striped pants with suspenders, and high heels resembling 1930’s gangster shoes. We also used a pick axe, a shovel, and a toy gun as props.
I always try to anticipate and prepare for any potential problems I may foresee on every shoot and I always seem to forget something or not think about some vital element of the shoot but I have to say that this was probably the smoothest shoot I have ever had. The only real issue was getting lost on the way there but it only set me back about 15 minutes so I don’t think it even qualifies as really being lost.
